Fashion Files: Duchess of Cambridge- Caribbean Tour Part 3
For the final leg of the Caribbean tour, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went to the Bahamas. I think this was Kate’s strongest part of the tour fashion wise. The bright colors, soft and airy just as the silhouettes themselves felt very spring and soft which I think is what this tour really needed.
Arrival Outfit
For Kate’s arrival look, she once again picked a color from the flag of the country she visited. I absolutely love this color on her, it’s also an Emilia Wickstead design that we’ve seen her wear earlier this day when they left Jamaica.
I think this dress is the perfect balance of fun and serious and I think it’s the fabric that helps with that. The color makes it fun and bright and while the fabric looks slightly heavier, it does also look streamlined.
The only part of this look I don’t love is the choice in heels. I don’t know why they would pick suede heels that read more fall/winter to me instead of a leather heel.
Another part I love about this look that we don’t often get, is her hair pins that add just a little something extra to her ponytail which has been somewhat of a signature for her on this tour.
Full day in the Bahamas
For their only full da in the Bahamas Kate had three classic looks. What I would call is a classic princess look with a flowy, bright color dress. A casual, sporty outfit. And then finally a gown.
Kate’s first look of the day, was a mint green Self Portrait dress. She wore this to a visit to a school and a walk about and Junkanoo, which is a carnival. For a rainy day, meeting children, and enjoying a carnival, I think this was the absolute most perfect dress in every way. A bright color, a loose fabric, it just screams very fresh and joyful. I also think these heels would’ve been perfect for the arrival look.
I don’t have much to say about her outfit for the sailing engagement. It’s a very basic sporty outfit, I will say it is nice to see Kate wear shorts for these events now like a regular person would. We actually never saw Kate in shorts for public events until the last few years, it was always skinny jeans for things like this.
I think this is my favorite gown of the tour. The pink Vampire’s Wife gown would’ve won had it been in the right location and event. This one totally fits the white-tie indoor reception. The color is stunning! To me it’s an icy blue but it’s described by the designer as turquoise. I believe it’s also the first time we’ve seen her wear this designer.
I do go back and forth on the jewelry though. Part of me likes the necklace, another part of me would’ve loved to see emeralds again.
Final Day of the Tour
The final day of the tour brought this bubblegum pink dress from RIXO. I absolutely love this color on Kate. The bright pink was perfect for a day of engagements with kids, at the beach, and also a visit to Abaco where they spoke with citizens affected by Hurricane Dorian in 2019.
The reason I think it’s perfect for an engagement that involved visiting memorials and an area that was absolutely devastated by a hurricane is that while this tour has been controversial especially in the topic of the importance, or lack of, the royals, sometimes they are often seen as a bright spot to a dark area and there to help uplift spirits of those broken.
Headed home
I have a very love/hate relationship with this final departure look. Overall, I love the color and the silhouette with the peplum. It very much bookends the tour with the peplum dress.
However, there’s just too many things going on here. The top part of the dress immediately reminded me of Princess Diana’s wedding gown, which isn’t really a good thing. From the ruffle at the collar, the jeweled belt, the bow, and the pearl buttons, it’s just a lot and almost feels like a cosplay of Princess Diana which I feel like her team had really tried to stay away from. With the critiques of this entire door being how it’s not always good to revisit the past, I don’t know why they’d really lean into it here. I would’ve loved this, like much of this tour, if this outfit had been one saved for a UK engagement.
I will say, had it been the dress with no jewel on the belt and now bow, I would’ve loved this look and it would’ve probably been m favorite because it feels like such a risk for Kate’s fashion choices and she looks so confident and it’s not a dress that’s necessarily wearing her. The voluminous high pony and the white heels, and no extra jewelry except subtle earrings, were excellent styling choices as well.
